Frequently Asked Questions About Online Payments

Please reach us at (858) 678-0061 or kevan@mclaughlinlegal.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We accept checks, eChecks, debit, and credit cards. As detailed below certain payments made by credit card may incur surcharges, but clients are always welcome and invited to make another form of payment

McLaughlin Legal uses third-party services of Clio to manage payment and invoice details.  Clio is an industry leader in attorney practice software and operates in accordance with PCI legislation.  Clio uses the payment industry's most advanced security measures—with bank-grade protection of client data and proactive fraud detection—so you can safely make online payments.

Yes, but only for credit cards.  A credit card surcharge is a fee added to your bill if you choose to pay by credit card instead of another form of payment.  Surcharging rules are enforced by major card networks such as Visa and Mastercard. Below is a summary for your reference. This list is not exhaustive and additional requirements may apply to you.

  • Surcharges will not be applied to debit or prepaid cards, which includes debit cards with Visa or Mastercard logos.
  • Surcharging caps. The amount of the surcharge will not exceed the amount it costs to process payments or 3%, whichever is lower.
  • Surcharging fee itemization. Whenever a surcharge is added for using a credit card, this charge  is listed as its own entry along with the exact percentage used to calculate it and the total dollar amount it adds up to.

The best option is to call our office at (858) 678-0061, or email Managing Partner, Kevan P. McLaughlin at kevan@mclaughlinlegal.com.
